She married 1st, Horace Jameson of Brant, NY on Jan 1, 1854 and shortly after moved to Sciota Twp, Dakota Co., MN where they homesteaded for several years. They had three children together before Horace enlisted: Eva, Ida and Eugene.
Horace enlisted in 1861 to serve during the Civil War, performing his duties throughout the south. During 1864 he moved his family back to western New York, procuring a home for Martha in Colden. Horace was later transferred to the Northwest Indian Expeditions and was at Fort Rice, Dakota Territory where he was murdered by a small band of Indians on August 27, 1865. Their fourth child, Hiram, was born less than two months later.
Nine years after his death Martha married 2d, Ira H. Bailey on March 21,1874. On July 3, 1876 their daughter, Sara (Sadie) Melissa, was born.
