Martha Gooch Best, 96, of Brevard, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, at her residence.
A native of Henderson, she was the daughter of the late Lueco Richard and Jesse Page Gooch and the wife of the late Farquhard Smith Best. She was a graduate of Converse College, Spartanburg and was a member of Transylvania County Hospital Auxiliary and First United Methodist Church, Brevard. She was preceded in death by son, Richard Lee Best and two brothers, Richard and George Gooch.
She is survived by two sons, Page H. Best and his wife, Elizabeth, of Atlanta and Peter F. Best and his wife, Vicky, of Fletcher; sister, Page Frank of York, Pa.; six grandchildren, Heather Lee Best, Sydney Best-Jones and Katie, Chapman, Scott, and Peter Best Jr.; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Saturday in the chapel of First United Methodist Church, Brevard, with the Rev Marcus Dodson officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Inurnment will be private at a later date. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Transylvania County Library Foundation, 105 S. Broad St, Brevard, NC 28712 or to TCH Hospice, PO Box 2440, Brevard, NC 28712. Moore Funeral Home, Brevard, is serving the family.
