Mary and Timothy lived for a while in Eaton County where their four surviving children were born: Alen L. Boyer, Margaret Boyer, Silas Morley Boyer and John Francis Boyer.
After moving around through Missouri, Michigan, North Dakota and Illinois the family eventually settled in Greenwood County, Kansas around 1871.
Mary Dean Boyer died in February 1885, probably on the family farm about 2 miles west of Virgil, Kansas. Her husband's February 1890 obituary says that Mary Boyer "having died five years ago." It further states that Timothy had "married a Miss Mary Dean, with whom he lived happily for nearly forty years, and now he sleeps by her side. The result of this marriage was five children, four of whom survive."
"Mrs. Mary N. [sic] Boyer, mother of the wife of W. F. Starnes, of Bethel township, died in Greenwood county, Kansas, Feb. 11. She was formerly a resident of this city, and will be remembered by many Macomb citizens. She was the wife of Timothy Boyer; they moved to Kansas in 1869."

In 2012 a volunteer reported: "I searched the entire cemetery and could not find the grave. I could not find a stone for Mary. However, I did photograph and upload a photo of her husband Timothy's headstone to his memorial. Unfortunately, the stone is too badly degraded to tell whether or not it included information for Mary.
