Lester Caffey, 76 years young of Thrall, Texas passed away Friday morning, August 21, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Thrall on September 27, 1932 to Pollie and Nealie (Harris) Caffey. On November 5, 1955 he married Ladella Machalicek at St. Marys Catholic Church in Taylor.
He was a veteran in the U. S. Army serving from 1952 to 1954. He worked for ALCOA in Rockdale as a Steel worker and retired in 1994 after 27 years of service. He was also a farmer and rancher. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dominoes, cards, watching his grandchildren play sports and being together with family.
He is survived by his children, Laura Talley and husband Greg of Thrall, Jauanna Newman and husband Troy of Thrall, Mitchell Caffey and Sandra Stefek of Thrall, and David Caffey and wife Judy of Taylor. Grandchildren, Brad Burlison of Taylor, Stacy Burlison of Thrall, Brooke and Tanner Newman of Thrall, Braegon and Hayden Caffey of Thrall, Chris and Nicole Caffey of Taylor. Great Grandchildren, Brady and Bree Burlison of Taylor. Siblings, Audrey Norman of Bryan, Sybil Popham of Rockdale, Bobby Caffey and wife Betty of Thorndale, and Billy Caffey of Rockdale.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ladella Caffey. Parents, Pollie and Nealie Caffey. Siblings, Claude Caffey, Buck Caffey, J. W. Caffey, C. M. Caffey and Edith Beyer.
Visitation will be Sunday evening August 23, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Funeral Service will be Monday August 24, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with the Rev. Jon Bielfeldt of St. John Lutheran Church in Thrall officiating. Burial will follow in the Salty Cemetery near Thorndale.
Pallbearers will be; Bradley Burlison, Tanner Newman, Hayden Caffey, Brian Caffey, Craig Jordan, Rex Caffey, Curtis Caffey and Kerry Caffey.
