Sadie M. Coates
Glass - Sadie M. Coates, age 85, widow of Robbie Coates and a resident of Glass died Sunday, January 1, 2006. Born in Gloucester, Oct. 20, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Mary Clements.
Miss Sadie was a member of Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was the retired Postmistress and unofficial "Mayor" and mentor to the Glass community.
She was also preceded in death by her fourth daughter, Robbie Jane Coates.
Survivors include one son, David B. Coates of Glass; three daughters, Dr. Charlotte Coates Wilkes and husband Lester of Towson, Md., Mary C. Kelsey and husband Gene of Williamsburg, and Nancy C. Wilson and husband Don of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Dorothy Parker of Gloucester and Mary Ness of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, 2:30 p.m. at Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church, Glass. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
