Age 22 years enlisted November 1, 1861 mustered in November 11, 1861 as Private with Co. C. 43rd Ohio Infantry Promoted Corporal June 1 , 1865 mustered out July 13, 1865 at Louisville Kentucky.

The 1900 census shows that he was 60 years old living in Beaverhead County and that he was a single man working as a farmer. Both of his parents were from Ohio.

The fifth child of Richard and Mary Ann Avery was William Avery who was born November 8, 1839 never married she was informed about November 20 1906 of his death. States that her brother William Every enlisted at the opening of the civil war 1861 until the close in 1865 after the war he visited her in Chicago and about May 1, 1876 he moved west after the year 1877 she did not hear from him until she was informed of his death.

Father Richard died about 1844 and Mother Mary died about 1859 they had 5 children the youngest being William.
Parents came from England in 1830 settling Cadiz Harrison County Ohio.
