Alfred registered for WWI in Mason County, Texas.Alf's registration can be located under the name Alfred Cavenss. He signed his draft card as "Alf Cavness". "He enter the U.S. Army in Mason on August 26, 1918. A son of Jasper and Martha nee DOYAL Cavness. "Alf" grew up west of Mason at Honey Creek. He was thirty years old when he entered the service and was attached to Co. F, 33rd Infantry Regiment. After completing his training, he was sent to the Canal Zone, Panama, where he remained until being discharged at Camp Bowie, Texas on April 26, 1919 as a Private. He was eligible for the Victory Medal."
