Charles D. Avery Dead.

One of the County's Earliest Settlers Passed Away Monday Morning.

Charles D. Avery who homesteaded in Sibley township in 1873, and who has made that neighborhood his home ever since, passed away last Monday morning after a long illness. He was 72 years of age and for several years had been in delicate health. His death however has cast a gloom over the entire community as Mr. Avery was a man who was universally admired and respected.

Mr. Avery was born in Lockport, N.Y., where he spent the first twenty years of his life. He then moved to Michigan and while a resident of that state married Miss Mary E. Wilcox with whom he lived until her death in 1894.

To Mr. and Mrs. Avery ten children were born and all are living valuable and useful lives. They are: Charles D. Avery Jr., of Los Angeles; Arthur Avery of El Toro, Calif.; G.H. Avery of Glen Elder; Ralph Avery of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Mrs. W.F. Clark of Haggerman, N.M.; Lewis, Cecil and Roy Avery of Concordia; Mrs. J.W. Taylor, Concordia and Miss Juanita Avery, Concordia.

Mr. Avery served his country during the great Civil war and four years of his life were given to the cause. He was a member of G.A.R. here and the Post attended his funeral in a body.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of Mrs. J.W. Taylor in Sibley township and Rev. Martin of this city had charge of the services.
