In the late 1800s, Charles became interested in photography and started C. D. Avery Studio in Concordia, Kansas. On 27 April 1892, at age 23 he married Luella Almira Geiger. Her father was also a Concordia photographer. They had no children.
Between 1900 and 1910, Charles and Luella moved to Los Angeles, where he became a real estate broker. By 1920 they were divorced. Charles died 8 February 1942 in Los Angeles. He is buried in Sibley Cemetery, Cloud, Kansas.
Because Charles was a good photographer, we have a wonderful collection of Avery family photos!
