Sonny Elmer Henry Adkins, Jr....
Sonny Elmer Henry Adkins, Jr., 66, died July 19, 2006 in Irving, TX. Services were at 3:00 p.m. on July 22 at Bethel Baptist Church in Nocona with Rev. Clark Farley officiating. Burial was in Mountain Creek Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home. Family visitation was on July 21.
Born to Elmer Henry Adkins and Margaret Poag Adkins in Nocona on December 29, 1939, he lived in Montague County most of his life and he resided in Bowie 36 years. Sonny retired from the Texas Dept. of Transportation in Maintenance Dept. of Bowie. He attended Nocona schools and served in the U.S. Army in Germany and France. He also served in the U.S. National Guard. He married Wanda Huddleston on August 5, 1980. Sonny was a member of the Baptist church. His family aided in the starting of Bethel Baptist Church of Nocona. He was a member of the Bowie Bass Association and the Bowie Bass Club, enjoying life as an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed arrowhead hunting. No matter where he traveled he never met a stranger. He loved going to town to visit with his friends or as he said, "spreading joy and cheer to all".
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ann Woods, and a very precious moma Poag, (Susie), his in-laws, Roy and Ann Huddleston.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Bowie; four sons, Michael Adkins and wife Shannon of Murphy, TX, Matt Graham and wife Vicky of Denton, TX, Scott Graham of Saint Jo, TX, Chad Graham and wife Vickie of Krum, TX; two daughters, Sherri McCrummen and husband Robert of Spring Branch, TX and Jeana Graham of Kernersville, NC; thirteen grandchildren, Justin Graham, Valery Graham, Chase Adkins, Kelsey McCrummen, Jeanie Martin, Kyleigh Graham, Chala Farris, Ryan Farris, Tara McCrummen, Jonathon Corley, Amanda Corley, Rebecca Hogate and Zachery Hogate; five nieces; and one nephew.
Pallbearers were Rick Green, Jerry Lancaster, Rusty Edwards, Ralph Stark, Gary Adams, L.B. Spikes, Scott Weber and Hector Flores.
Honorary pallbearers were friends of Bowie TxDOT, Bowie Bass Club, Bowie Bass Association, and Bobby Watkins.
