He was a railroad conductor. He was married to Jennie Pressler, on 11-17-1883, and had 2 sons (Cleveland & Frank); but they divorced on 9-12-1891. He re-married Cora Belle Passwater and had 3 children. He was killed on the railroad on 11-13-1909 in a train collision. He was a conductor, riding in the caboose of the freight train, which had been ordered to get on a sidetrack to let a fast train go through. Because of heavy fog, the engineer of the fast train could not see that the freight train had not cleared the track. He slammed into the caboose and Charles was killed instantly. He was 46 years old. He is buried in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington, IN.

His parents are Phillip Alexander Stewart(1838-?) and Sarah Jane Foughty (1835-1916)

He married Alfretta Jane "Jennie" Pressler on November 17, 1883 in Miami County, Indiana.
