Randsom J. Simpson Dies After Being Crushed Under Wheels of Gravel Truck

Ransom J. Simpson, 78, died at his home about a mile south of Gentry at 6:30 Tuesday morning, a few hours after he was seriously injured when run over by a gravel truck in front of his home Monday afternoon.

Mr. Simpson is said to have entered the truck at Feemster's playground as a passenger and is said to have alighted when the truck reached his home on Highway 12 while the truck was in motion. In some manner he fell under the rear wheels of the truck, his left leg being badly crushed. The truck as driven by Art Thomas who is employed on highway construction south of Gentry.

Mr. Simpson was born May 4, 1858, in Plymouth, Ill., and was an engineer on the Illinois Central railway before coming to Benton in 1897. He has been a resident of Gentry and vicinity for many years and is widely known in this section.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Anna W. Simpson, three daughters, Mrs. Eulah A. Smith of Joplin, Mrs. Gertrude Trammel of near Gentry and Mrs. Mildred Couch of San Berndardino Calif.; one son, Carl J. Simpson of Ryderwood Wash.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Simpson was a member of the Gentry Christian Church and funeral services will be held there at 2:30 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon with the Rev. C. D. Purlee, pastor of the Siloam Sjprings Christian Church officiating. Burial will be made in the Gentry cemetery with the Wassen funeral service in charge.
