He was the son of Aaron Lyman and Eunice Dwight Lyman of Belchertown,MA.

His first wife, married Jan 9,1759, was Sarah Worthington Lyman.

His second wife, married Apr 10,1803, was Jerusha (Parsons) Stone Brown Lyman, the daughter of Benjamin Parsons and Rebecca Sheldon. She was the widow of Artemas Stone and Daniel Brown, and she died at the home of her daughter Theodosia Cushman in Fair Haven,VT in June 1841.

Children(by first marriage): Aaron Lyman, Sophia Lyman Smith, Giles Lyman, Jonathan Lyman, and Augustus Lyman.
