Wayne Schuessler Burr, 83, of Lone Tree, died Monday, March 6 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 9 at 10:30 a.m., at the United Presbyterian Church of Lone Tree. Officiating was the Rev. Ann Rouse. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery.

Visitation was held 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10 at George L. Gay Funeral Home and Crematorium in Iowa City.

Pallbearers were John Burr, Lloyd Burr Jr., Richard Burr, Ron Halvorson, Marvin Halvorson and Nels Halvorson.

Memorials may be given to the United Presbyterian Church of Lone Tree.

Burr was born Dec. 18, 1916 on a farm two miles northwest of Lone Tree in Lincoln Township, the son of Charles Henry and Louise (Schuessler) Burr. He graduated from Lone Tree High School and attended the University of Iowa.

Wayne and Rosetta Norine Halvorson were married Jan. 2, 1941 at the First Lutheran Church, near Conroy, Iowa. The couple made their home in Lone Tree, where Wayne was a lifelong farmer.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Lone Tree, the Johnson County Farm Bureau and a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Wayne was also an avid bowler with the Lone Tree Men’s League and an avid trapshooter, capturing national honors with a second-place finish at the Grand American Handicap trapshoot meet in 1951.

Survivors include his wife Rosetta, of Lone Tree; one son, Alan Charles Burr, and his wife, Nancy Kay Burr, of Lone Tree; and two granddaughters: Kelli Marie Burr of Marion and Amy Suzanne Burr of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Burr Sundal.
