William Ambrose Corey was the first son, of three, Stephen Jared, and Charles Henry born to Ambrose Brookmire and Maria Fidelia Henry Corey. Ambrose was the son of Benjamin and Ruth Tanner Corey. Maria was the daughter of William D. Henry and Lucinda Agnes Thompson.
1869 Ambrose along with his family and the Henry family moved from Wisconsin to Phelps Co MO.
William and his wife's marriage license was the first one issued in Phelps Co MO. William married Fanny Melissa Sharrar 27 Jun 1881. She was the daughter of Thomas and Elonar Stewart Sharrar of Blair Co PA.
From this marriage five daughters and two sons were born, Mable, Blanche, Ella, Clyde Henry, Roy, Grace and Bertha.
For several years William was a farmer, then worked for several more years as a machinist for the School of Mines in Rolla, MO

"Uncle 'Will' Corey, 92, Dies in St Louis
William ("WILL" Corey, life-long Phelps County resident and one of this area oldest citizens, died at Jewish Hospital in St Louis today. He was 92 years old and had been ill for several weeks.
He was known to many as "Uncle Will', and had many friends here. He and his wife was issued the first marriage license ever issued in Phelps County---back in 1880. His wife died four years ago. Mr. Corey worked at the School of Mines for many years.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but the body will be at The Hollow Funeral Home here tomorrow. Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of the Hollow Funeral Home.

A number of relatives from out of town attended the funeral services for William A. Corey longtime Rolla resident, Feb 11 at the Hollow Funeral Home.
Mr. Corey has made his home for the past two years with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Appel, near St. Louis. His daughter, Mrs. Mabel Emmons of Brewerton, New York, arrived during Mr. Corey's last illness, on Jan 12, and another daughter, Mrs. Bertha Gabler arrived from Richland, Wash., Jan 13. The latter found it necessary to return home Jan 25. Her sons, George of Central College, Fayette, MO, and Bill of the University of Missouri at Columbia, attended the funeral.
Richard Love of Salem, ILL., a nephew of the late Mrs. Corey, also attended the services.
The family were made welcome during the stay in Rolla at the home of Dr. and Mrs. W.M. Cottingham, Mrs. Cottingham is a niece of the late Mrs. Corey.
In addition to the three daughters, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Corey is survived by two brothers, S.J. Corey of Lexington, Ky., and Charles of Tucson, Ariz. Two children, Clyde and Blanche, passed away about 17 years ago.
