Obituary of Jim L Phillips

Jim L Phillips was born in Tennessee October 9, 1979, coming to Sunset, Texas with his family at the age of 18 years. He lived in this community the remainder of his life. He was united in marriage to Miss Mae Handley June 28, 1908 and in August 1951 he was converted and joined the Cuba Baptist Church, where he remained faithful to his Savior until his death January 23, 1954, at the age of 74 years, 3 months, and 14 days.

Funeral services were held at the Bible Baptist Church here at 2:30 Monday afternoon, January 25, 1954, with Rev. Clinton Kersey officiating, assisted by Rev. Thurmon Wilson. The musical arrangements of the service was given by Messrs. Frank Newton, Arthur Reddell, Herbert Flowers, and Bert Hawkins in quartet, a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Moody and a solo by Janis Kersey.

Survivors include his wife, and one brother, Ben Phillips of Weatherford, seven nieces, seven nephews also survive.

Interment was in the West Side Cemetery under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Arthur Buens, Doyle Pierce, J. W. Walker, Virgil Martin, Vernon Van Hoose and John Cobb.
