John O. Perrin was born in Rossville, IN, to James J. and Margaret Neil (Cason) Perrin. He was a graduate of Yale University. After studying banking in Europe, he was made a vice president of Perrin National Bank in Lafayette, IN.
Perrin organized the American National Bank in Indianapolis in 1900 and served as its president until 1910. He served on a committee of bankers which presented a plan for the Federal Reserve Bank to Congress, becoming chairmain of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco until his retirement in 1926.
He was survived by his wife, Ellenor Bates Perrin, son Hervey Bates Perrin, and grandson John Bates Perrin. A son, John Bates Perrin, predeceased him in 1913.
