"John Wright was known in our town as "Sam Wright". His brother, William Victor Wright, was known as "Vic Wright". Both men were quite elderly when I was growing up. Sam lived in a little 1 room 'house' on the ally off Victory Street in Sidney, IL and coal to heat his home. Sam & Vic were friends of my grandmother, Maudie Shipman and our family. Sam Wright use to take walks and would walk in the middle of the ally. One day when my mom was driving and turned into the ally, Sam was in the middle of the ally and wasn't seen. Sam was hit by the car and sustained a broken arm and head injury from when he hit the ground. Sam was released to go home from the hospital after a couple of days. Some time later, Sam had to live in a nursing home. I believe he went to the Champaign County Nursing Home, where he died some years later. Sam was always a gentleman, Vic-not so much.
