JEFFERSONVILLE EVENING NEWS OBITUARY – 11/16/1998
Funeral services for Jacob A. Kemp, 79, of Jeffersonville, were held today, Monday, Nov. 16, at Coots Funeral Home, with burial in Eastern Cemetery. He died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998 at Clark Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Alton, a retired carpenter's helper, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 35 and Hod Carriers Local 795. Survivors include his wife, the former Etta M. Jennings; five sons, James Kemp, Sulpher, Ind., Harry Kemp, New Albany, Luther Kemp, Jeffersonville, Kenneth Kemp, Arkansas, and Dennis Kemp, Leavenworth; three daughters, Anna Thevnot, Palmyra, Mary Kemp, Jeffersonville, and Ruth Rochner, Lanesville; a brother, Harry Kemp, New Albany; three half-brothers, Virgil Harvey and Charles Jordan, New Albany, and Walter Jordan, Arizona; three half-sisters, Dorothy Todd, Ethel Cranny and Alberta Perkins, all of Arizona; 24 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jacob A. Kemp, 79, Jeffersonville, died Friday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. A native of Alton, born Jan. 22, 1919, he was the son of the late Floyd W. and Mary Jordan Kemp. He was employed as a carpenter at Marble Hill and was a member of American Legion Post 35 in Jeffersonville and Local 795 Hod Carriers. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marshie E. Wynn and Virginia L. Smith. Survivors include his wife, the former Etta M. Jennings; five sons, James H. Kemp of Sulphur, Harry O. Kemp of New Albany, Luther M. Kemp Sr. of Jeffersonville, Kenneth W. Kemp of Arkansas, and Dennis L. Kemp of Leavenworth; three daughters, Anna B. Thevenot of Palmyra, Mary E. Kemp of Jeffersonville and Ruth A. Rochner of Lanesville; a brother, Harry W. Kemp of New Albany; three half brothers, Virgil Harvey, and Charles R. and Walter Jordan, all of New Albany; three half sisters, Dorothy M. Todd, Ethel P. Cranny and F. Alberta Perkins; all of Arizona; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Monday at Coots Funeral Home with burial in Eastern Cemetery in Jeffersonville. The Rev. Charles Kerberg officiated.
