He was a retired medic with the Jefferson Special Police, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Clark County Police Lodge #131 both in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the Indiana Sheriff's Association, and the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harry and Edward Kemp; and his sisters, Ruth Ann Rochner, Mary Ellen Kemp, and Marsha Irene Kemp.
Survivors include 6 sons; 5 daughters; 12 grandchildren; his brothers, James Henry Kemp, Sr. of Taswell, Kenneth Wayne Kemp of Arkansas, and Dennis Lee Kemp of Beechwood, Indiana; and his sister, Anna Thevenot of Corydon.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Burial will be in Highfill Chapel Cemetery near Taswell. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
