Mrs. Blanche McIllece Passes Away

The Lawrence community was deeply saddened Monday morning by the death of a highly respected and loved member of its Golden Age citizens. Mrs. Blanche McIllece passed away at the age of 88 years at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, where she had been hospitalized for the past couple of weeks.

She was a life time member of the Lawrence community. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray McIllece and a daughter Kathleen. She is survived by her children, Dr. R.C. McIllece of Fort Madison, Iowa; Dr. Patricia Carmon of Madison, Wisc. and R.E. McIllece of Lawrence, Ne. also 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Rosary services will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 o'clock at Sacred Heart Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday Febr. 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart church, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Blanche McIllece Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. R.B. McIllece were held Thursday, February 5 at Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence Nebraska. The Mass of the Resurrection was offered at eleven o'clock by Father Ignatius Lanpart who also officiated at the graveside services in Sacred Heart cemetery (sic).

Pall bearers were four grandsons: James Carmen, Rich McIllece, Kelly McIllece, Kevin McIllece and two nephews Tom Schlachter and Don Cronin.

Blanche McIllece, daughter of Patrick J. and Mary Cronin was born near Pauline, Nebraska on December 12, 1887 and died at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebr. February 2 at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 20 days. She was the oldest of a family of 9 children. As a small child she, with her parents, brothers and sisters moved to Lawrence where she spent the rest of her life. She was one of the oldest alumni of Lawrence High School.

She was united in marriage to Ray B. McIllece on November 25, 1909 at Sacred Heart Church.

She was a life time member of the Catholic Church and belonged to Sacred Heart Parish almost from the time it was formed, she was a member of the Altar Society for over 65 years and many times an officer of the organization. She spent many hours working in the interest of the church and school.

Blanche possessed the qualities that made association with her a continued delight. Her vivacity and her sweet gracious hospitality and consideration had the happy faculty of putting people at ease. Her many friends found her rich in loyalty, insight and appreciation. She delighted to entertain her family and friends. Her most enjoyable pastime was a friendly game of bridge.

She was devoted to her home and family and never lacked a mothers or grandmothers help and counsel. She loved life and lived it well and her death will leave a void hard to fill.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1960 and a daughter Kathleen who died in 1937. She is survived by a daughter Mrs. David (Patty) Carmen of Madison, Wisc. and two sons Dr. Raymond McIllece of Fort Madison, Iowa and Robert McIllece of Lawrence, 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also a brother Carl Cronin of Gettysburg, S.D. The only living member of the P.J. Cronin family.

Relatives attending the final services included Dr. Raymond McIllece of Fort Madison, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. David Carmen and son James of Madison, Wisc. Mr. and Mrs. Rick McIllece of Des Moines, Iowa, Kelly and Terri McIllece of Lincoln, Miss Connie McIllece of Colorado Springs, Col. Tom Schlachter and Don Cronin of Gettysburg, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schlachter and family of Hastings.
