William Bachman, 69, passed away Thursday, November 22, 1923, at his home in Clarence.

Funeral services were 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 24, at the Evangelical Church in Clarence, with Rev. Fauth officiating. Burial was in the Clarence Cemetery, Clarence, Iowa.

William Bachman was born April 9, 1854, in Frauenbreitunger, Sachsen-Weimar, Germany, the son of Johann and Eva (Geissler) Bachman. He immigrated to the United States in 1872 and settled on a farm in Cedar County, where his uncle was living. He worked for his uncle and other farmers for several years, until he established his own farm. He married Louisa Bauman on March 4, 1891, in Clarence and were the parents of five children. Together they farmed northeast of Clarence, until 1919 when he retired and they moved into Clarence. His son Arthur and his wife continued with the family farm. He barely settled into his new home, when he developed intestinal troubles. An operation was performed, but the doctors gave no hope and that the end might come at any time. After another serious attack of sickness last week, he passed away at his home. He was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Church in Clarence. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Louise; one daughter, Clara Bachman of Independence; two sons, Arthur (Irma) Bachman and Frederick (Edith) Bachman, both of Clarence; three grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Werling of Tipton and Christina (Jacob) Parbs of Center Point; one brother, Casper Bachman in Germany; and two nephews, William Bachman of Stanwood and William Keller of Welcome, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Eva Bachman in infancy, one son, Edgar Bachman and one nephew, George Bachman.
