Samuel C. Coder was born in Pennsylvania but his family moved to Jackson County, Iowa by the time he was 4 years old. In 1870 they lived in Cherokee County, Kansas. Samuel moved back to Iowa by 1880 and lived with his brother Charles and his family in Carrol County, Iowa. He married Cora Niman in Carroll County ion 22 December 1887. Cora and Samuel had three children, Mary, Bert "Buck" and Robert Zay. In 1900 the family, along with Cora's mother Charity, lived in Deer Creek, Oklahoma where Samuel was a farmer, but in 1910 the family had moved to Springer Township, and 1920 to Elk Township where Samuel continued to farm until his death in 1922.

SAMUEL CODER, OLD SETTLER PASSES AWAY LAST THURSDAY
Samuel Coder died at his home two miles southeast of Jones City, last Thursday, October 12, at the age of 66 years. Funeral services were held Friday at the family home the Rev. Daniel Wolfe officiating. Burial was in the Odd Fellows cemetery. Deceased was born, May 19, 1856, in Westmoreland county, Penn. In infancy he moved with his parents to Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was joined in marriage there to Cora Niman, to which union three children were born, a daughter and two sons, Bert and Zay. In the early years of Oklahoma, deceased moved with his family to near Edmond where they lived several years. They then lived several years on a farm north of Jones City, moving to the State Center district some thirteen years ago, where they have since resided. In early life deceased united with the Methodist church, and held to that faith until death. He leaves his wife, two sons Bert and Zay, and one daughter, Mrs. Earl Truax of Tracy, Minn. Deceased was a good man good neighbor and a loving husband and father. The many friends extend their heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
