"Mr. Durkee removed from Fort Edward, NY in the early part of 1852 and bought the Kent place in S. Royalton. He was in the mercantile business for about 30 years and left it with an unsullied reputation for honesty and square dealing. He was always to the front on any question affecting the welfare of the community and was one of the leaders of the S. Royalton Congregational church, being deacon from its organization until his death. The minister always knew where to find him on the evening of midweek prayer meeting. After he gave up active life, he solaced himself with the study of art, and left to his family some very good amateur paintings" from The History of Royalton, Vermont by Lovejoy 1911
He died of apoplexy

He was the son of Timothy Durkee and Sarah Ann Baker
