He served in the Korean War - Air Force veteran. He retired as a personnel director from General Electric and Black & Decker of Asheboro, NC., a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the University of Kentucky Class of 1961, and an associate member of Mount St. Joseph Ursuline Community.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Norma Porter-Blankenship; two daughters, Laura Turner of Asheboro, N.C., and Martha Bailey of Randleman, N.C.; two sons, Lee of Harrisburg, N.C. and Tim of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, Frank, of Navarre, Fl; and four grandchildren.
