Anna M Amen, 88, a lifetime resident of this area, passed away last Thursday, July 17. Born Jan 19, 1887, in Hastings, NE, Mrs Amen was the daughter of John and Anna (Bauer) Schafer. The family moved to Washington in 1890 and homesteaded land northwest of Ritzville in 1891. On Feb 13, 1908, she was married to George Amen, they resided on their farm near Packard until 1942 when they retired—moving first to Odessa and shortly thereafter establishing their home in Ritzville. Mrs Amen remained at her Ritzville home until about a year and a half ago when she became a resident of the Odessa Convalescent Home. Her life centered around her family and friends and her church, serving as organist for many years in the Emmanuel Congregational Church on the Adams-Lincoln County line. She continued her interest in music after retirement by being the pianist for a prayer group in the Philadelphia Congregational Church, Ritzville, where she was a member. Her husband, George, preceded her in death in 1970. Survivors are her two children, Alma Schoessler of Yakima, and Otto of Ritzville; four grandchildren: Mary Anne Guggenheim, Denver, CO; Dorothy Bower, Wapato, WA; Richard Amen, Saratoga, CA; and Donald Amen, Arlington, VA; and by three great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters: Elizabeth Walter, Odessa; Emelia Ramsey, Wenatchee; and Martha Cordes, Spokane. Her youngest sister, Alma Amen of Norfolk, NE, preceded Mrs Amen in death by one day. Funeral services were held from the Philadelphia Congregational Church on Monday morning, Rev Ernest Sprenger officiating. Milton Sackmann was soloist. Pall bearers included Donald Amen, Paul Shugert, Alvin Lenhart, Richard Amen, Lee Roy Weizel and Wayne Lenhart. Burial was in Ritzville Memorial Cemetery." (Odessa Record: 7-24-1975)
