He was the son of Timothy Olmsted (1767-1845) and Huldah Sanford (1770-1817). He was married to Susan Hartshorn Beard 21 Mar 1831 in Swanton, VT by the notable Rev. Phineas Culver (1787-1835). They had 5 children together and Susan died in Fairfax, VT in 1846, she is buried North Fairfax-Beeman Cemetery. Peter then married widower, Cynthia (Kingsbury) Lawrence and they moved to Rockton, IL before 1860 and in 1860 he had 74 acres of improved land and 6 acres of unimproved, 2 horses, 2 milk cows, 2 working oxen, and lived near an old friend from Franklin Co., Vermont, Oliver Franklin Robinson (1801-93. In 1870 he had 86 improved acres, 3 horses, 2 milk cows and 2 working oxen.
