James Ernest Payne, 83, of Bloomington, passed away January 11, 2001 at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier. He was born February 25, 1917 in Bloomington, the son of Ernest Samuel and Mildred Clara Aland Payne.


He married Leona Lewis June 27, 1941 in Bloomington. Their marriage was later solemnized September 27, 1962 in the Logan LDS Temple.


James was raised and educated in Bloomington. He was a rancher and also worked in construction.


He was an Elder in the Bloomington LDS Ward and had held various positions and was a home teacher for many years.


He was a past member of the Bear Lake Rangers and had served as Watermaster for many years. He enjoyed breeding and training horses and working his cattle.


Surviving family members; his wife, Leona of Bloomington, two sons and two daughters and their spouses: Gary J and Marilyn Payne of Sandy, UT, Rex L and Sheila Payne of Montpelier, Evelyn and Kent Stucki of Paris and Diane and Alan Hubbard of Georgetown; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; on sister and a sister-in-law, Ruby Godfrey of Brigham City and Darlene Payne of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Aland Payne and a sister, Myrna Teresa. Funeral services were conducted January 15 in the Paris Idaho Stake Center with burial in the Bloomington Cemetery.
