Grant William Bateman, 87, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born March 19, 1913 in Bloomington to William Henry and Vesta Thompson Bateman. He married Hima Beatty December 30, 1942 in the St George Temple. They were married almost 50 years prior to her passing in 1992. In 1999 he married Betty Robinson, who was a loving tender companion.


Grant loved farming and milking a dairy herd in Bloomington. He also worked as a carpenter in Mesa, where he and his family spent most of their winters. Grant loved to joke and have good times. He and Hilda went frequently to study groups, dinner dances, picnics and parties with couple friends. They also spent much time with their daughters and grandsons in their retired years. Grant became an avid temple attender in his later years. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.


Grant leaves behind his wife Betty of Mesa, and her family; his two daughters, Cheryl Waite and Janet Barnes; three grandsons, Baul Bateman Barnes, Ashley Waite, and Jason Waite and two sisters, Ruby Barber Michalicek and Betty Talbot. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wilma, tow brothers, Forrest and Russel Bateman and two sisters, Blanche Sleight and Jennie Stocker Rich Hines.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17 at Noon in the Paris Stake Center, where friends may call that morning from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Bloomington Cemetery with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
