John W. Warner of Newark, Gratiot, MI, had enlisted in Co. D. 26th Michigan at the age of 40. He died of disease at Alexandria on February 26, 1863, and is buried in Grave # A-753 (741) of the Alexandria National Cemetery. He had been under the partial care of famed Michigan Relief Agent, Julia Susan Wheelock [Find A Grave Memorial #32621723.]
Julia Susan Wheelock-Freeman served in the Michigan Soldier's Relief Association during the U.S. Civil War. She was also stationed with the 26th Michigan Infantry and Michigan Cavalry Brigades under General George Armstrong Custer.
John's brother, Cecil, also served in the Civil War.
