Abigail R. Carbajal 71 of Las Cruces, NM went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday October 17, 2004. She was born on March 29, 1933 in Chapultepec, Mexico to Manuel and Rosa Rubalcava.
She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and taking wonderful care of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed making crafts and watching her evening "novellas". She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who you could always depend on. She would sit with her grandchildren and teach them the values of life and belief in Jesus Christ. Her inspiration for helping others came from the strength of knowing her Lord and Savior. We look forward to the day we will see her again. We love you mom.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Raynond F. Carbajal on October 8, 2004, her parents and brother Samuel Quintanar.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel and wife Rose of Dona Ana, NM; Ruben R. Sr. and wife Rita Elena of Las Cruces, NM; two daughters, Debra Carbajal who took wonderful care of her throughout her illness and Sandra Garcia and husband Luis all of Las Cruces, NM. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Ruben Jr; Michael, Ashley, Laura, Marissa, and Emilio, her sisters Elizabeth Padilla of Las Cruces, NM, Esther Vigil and husband Henry of Denver, CO, Rosemary Trujillo and husband Joe of Hurley, NM, sister-in-law Florence Quintanar of Lawndale, CA, and several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesay October 20, 2004 at Getz Funeral Home from 5-7:00 PM. A prayer vigil will follow the same evening at 7:00 PM also at the Getz Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday October 21, 2004 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, with Fr. Bill Coughlin officiating. The rite of committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers will be Joe Trujillo, Manuel Padilla, Ruben Sr. and Ruben Jr. Carbajal, Luis Garcia, Henry "Hank" Vigil.
