Emma Belle Doherty, 79, of Bartlesville died Sunday at 5:38 p.m. at the Bartlesville Care Center.
Services are scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Liberty Chapel of Praise, 1312 W. Hensley, with Pastor Wayman White and Pastor Linda Humphrey officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home.
Emma Belle (Lemon) Doherty was born October 22, 1929 in Bartlesville, OK to William Montgomery and Bertha Pearl (Behner) Lemon. On June 11, 1955 she married Arthur N. Doherty in Nowata, OK. Emma enjoyed crocheting, making baby blankets, embroidering, cooking cakes and visiting with her many friends. She worked many years at Bartlesville College High School cafeteria.
She loved teaching Sunday School; was devoted to the small children teaching them about Jesus and songs. Emma also enjoyed singing with Art while he played the guitar at the Pentecostal Tabernacle and Tuxedo Pentecostal Holiness churches for over fifty years.
Emma is survived by her husband Art of the home. Four sons, Michael Doherty and wife Debra of Bartlesville, Ricky, Billy L. and Tommy Leeson, daughter, Debbie Cox and husband David of Bartlesville. Thirteen grandchildren; Chris, Danielle and Josh Doherty, Tonya, Tony, Jamie, Blain, Brian, Lisa, and Danny Leeson, Donald Cox , Jeanie Mohammad and Kevin Shaffer, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Two sisters; Virginia Byrd and Bertha Morgan of Bartlesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Rita Doherty, eight brothers; Terrell, Art, Ray and Dallas "Junior" Banks, Billy Paul, Hal and Pat Lemon and Charles Lemon Eklof. Three sisters; Opal Fugate, Betty Holmes and Almeda Banks. One infant grandson: Joe Allen, and three infant brothers and one infant sister.
Final committal rights will be accorded Mrs. Doherty in the White Rose Cemetery.
There has been a fund established at Banc First. Those wishing to contribute can send contributions to P.O. Box 2068, Bartlesville, OK 74005-2068.
