Simeon Plantz enlisted as a Private in Co E, 142nd NY Infantry. His finger was shot off in action June 15, 1864 in front of Petersburg, VA. He was absent in the hospital when the company mustered out and he mustered out June 7, 1865. He married Allura Beach as his second wife in 1885.

Sgt. Simeon Plantz (January 5, 1827-November 26, 1920) married on July 4, 1846 Eliza Ann Hall (who died September 28, 1873) daughter of Benjamin Greene Hall and Esther Taylor Hall) Eliza was buried in a field near their home on the Ireland Road, Hammond, New York

Proof of Parentage:
"Simeon Plantz, a Sargeant of Co. J, 142nd Regiment, NY Vols" . . . states that his eldest son of 17 has just been buried, his younger son of 8 is ailing in the same way and his wife is unable to help herself from an attack of rheumatism. He had made application for discharge. Hammond Town Clerk - Civil War Parents LDS microfilm #1993428 Hammond NY 7 Flantz Simeon [born in]1828 Fort Plain, Montgomery Co [s/o] Rhainard [and] Elizabeth Apple Infantry Regiment Civil War St. Lawrence County Regiment History)

On September 7, 1885, Simeon married Allura Beach.

1910 Obituary: "Old Soldier Dies/Answers Last Roll Call at ae. of Eighty-Three/Mr. Simeon Plantz, a veteran of the Civil War passed away at his home in this village, Saturday morning, November 26, after a long illness which followed a paralytic stroke last spring. Mr. Plantz was born January 5, 1827. 'He enlisted at Ogdensburg August 29th, 1862 in the 142 Regiment, Co. E, under the command of the late General Curtis and served throughout the war. For a time he was an orderly to the General. He was engaged in a number of battles. On July 7th, 1865 he received an honorable discharge at Raleigh, North Carolina, and returned home. He was a member of the G. A. R. Post at Morristown and when able, attended the exercises there. Mr. Plantz was twice married, his last wife being Miss Allura Beach to whom he was united in marriage September 7th, 1885 at Brockville, Ont. and who was with four children survive him, also a daughter, Mrs. Lowery of Brier Hill, by his first wife. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church, Monday at 11 o'clock, Dr. Ferguson officiating. Internment in Ingham Cemetery, North Hammond."
