Bernice was born at "Sholto" in Boonsboro, Virginia, one of eight children born to Charles Meriwether and his first cousin, Ellen Douglas Meriwether. Catherine married William Harris Rucker on 26 Oct 1898 at "Sholto". They had six children: John Addison (1899–1985), William Lile (1903–1990), Ellen Douglas (1906–1973), Emily Harris (1908–1997), Catherine Meriwether (1912–1913) and Charlotte Landon (1916–1996) Rucker.

Mrs. Catherine Meriwether Rucker, 84, of Boonsboro, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Guggenheimer Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late William H. Rucker. Born Jan. 23, 1875, in Bedford County, she was the daughter of Charles J. and Ellen Douglas Meriwether. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church at Boonsboro.
She is survived by two sons, J. Addison and William Lile Rucker, both of Boonsboro; three daughters, Mrs. Ellen Driscoll of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Dexter Smith of Petersburg and Mrs. Cabell Leckie of Salem; a brother, Frank M. Meriwether of Lakeland, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Diuguid Memorial Chapel with burial in Boonsboro Cemetery.
