Braxton Wilson Dies After Extended Illness at Age of 54; Prominent in Affairs.

Pascagoula, Aug 5 -
Braxton Wilson, 54, lifelong resident of Jackson County, died yesterday afternoon at 4:18 o'clock at the Jackson County Hospital, following an illness of some 17 to 18 months. He has been a patient at the hospital for the past three weeks. Mr Wilson; prior to becoming sheriff of Jackson County in January 1936, was one of the leading business men of Beat 5, Vancleave, holding various business interests throughout the county.
He was a member of the board of Supervisors of Jackson County for eight years; a member of the Masonic Lodge of Pascagoula for the past 20 years; a member of the Odd Fellows, and also a devoted member of the Methodist Church.

Mr Wilson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha O'Neal Wilson; two sons, Ulmer and Eugene Wilson of Pascagoula; four daughters, Mrs Howard Ruble of Georgetown, SC, and Mrs Ina Wilson, Miss Katherine Wilson and little Ura La June Wilson of Pascagoula; three brothers, Tom and John Wilson of Perkinston and Jim Wilson of Biloxi; five sisters, Mrs Joseph [sic] Whittington of Perkinston, Mrs. A. Havens and Mrs Mary Rouse of Vancleave, Mrs Laura Tootle of Biloxi and Mrs George R. Carter of Pascagoula, and other relatives.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock in Vancleave with services at the Methodist Church and at the grave. Rev Nix of Vancleave will be in charge, assisted by Rev John Moore, Methodist pastor of Pascagoula, and Rev Eugene Patterson, Pastor of the Baptist Church of Pascagoula, Masonic services also will be held at the grave.

Brock and Bertha lived and raised their family off Hwy 57 across from the old school. His neighbor's were the Groves family.
