Delbert P. Nave was born in Martinsville, Illinois, the son of Joseph O. Nave and Leo Merle Bryan Nave. He married Thelma Mary Hamilton of North Little Rock Arkansas in 1941. In 1950, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee where he was Associate Professor of Art at Memphis State University for 24 years. He and Thelma were the parents of three sons, Arthur, Paul and Dennis Nave, one daughter, Carol Caummisar, and had 10 grandchildren and 15 great-granchildren. He was a member of Raleigh Baptist Church.
