Funeral services for Carl Hemsath, 76, of 2754 Independence Ave. will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Memories West where friends may call after 7 p.m. Monday. Mr. Hemsath died Sunday morning at 11:30 at the Parkview Gardens Care Center of complications of a stroke.

Born Mar. 17, 1897, in Blue Hill. Neb., he was the son of Frederick and Ida VanBoening Hemsath* and was married to Bessie Weidman Jan. 7, 1955, in Waterloo.

He retired from the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works in March 1962.

Mr. Hemsath was a member of the Eagles Lodge and a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by his wife; two sisters. Mrs. Marie Weidman of 330 N. Roosevelt St., Evansdale, and Mrs. Emma Eldridge of Dunkerton: two brothers, Ernest of Dewar and Ralph of 1144 Patton St.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

(*he was a son of Johann Friedrich and Ide Tjaden Hemsath. Ida Schmidt Van Boening was his grandaunt.)

Funeral services for Carl Hemsath, 78, of 2754 Independence Ave., will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Memories West, with members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 764 officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Hemsath died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Parkview Gardens Care Center of complications of a stroke.

Friends may call at the Chapel of Memories West until service time.
