SAMUEL STEPHENS

Samuel Stephens, son of Isaac and Diana Stephens, was born Jan. 27, 1865, near Confidence, Iowa. He departed this life Sept. 12, 1952, at Yocom hospital in Chariton, at the age of 87 years, seven months and 15 days.

On June 5, 1892 he was united in marriage with Caroline Elizabeth Morlan and to this union six children were born: Ximena Robison of Corydon; Cecil of Chariton; Loren of Morris, Minn.; Coral of Cedar Falls; Lawrence of Omaha, Nebr.; and Madgel Dewey of Cedar Falls.

Most of his life was spent on a farm in Wayne county. After the death of his wife in 1941, he resided with his daughter, Cecil, in Chariton.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

He is survived by his children, two daughters-in-law, Pauline Stephens of Omaha, Nebr., and Arvilla Stephens of Morris, Minn.; and two sons-in-law, Clarence Robison of Corydon and Melvin Dewey of Cedar Falls.

He is also survived by his grandsons, Merrill Robison of Corydon, Harold Robison with the First Cavalry in Japan, Harry Robison of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., Sam Stephens of Goodwin, Minn., Donald, Richard and Robert Stephens of Morris, Minn., John Dewey of Cedar Falls, and his granddaughters, Carol Grotjohn of Saco, Mont., Darlene and Arvilla Stephens of Morris, Minn., and JoAnn Stephens of Omaha, Nebr., and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from the Woodman Funeral Home in Russell, Sept. 14, at 2:00 with the Rev. C. Frederick Kinell of the First Baptist church of Ottumwa officiating. The hymns, requested by the children, "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder" and "Abide With Me" were sung by Mrs. Kinell.

Burial was in the Russell cemetery. Casket bearers were Merrill and Harry Robison, Everett and Merrill Morlan, Allen Dixon and Ed J. Larson.
