SENECA--Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church here for Edward J. Haug, 96, Seneca, who died Wednesday at the home of his son, Omer Haug, Seneca.

He was born Aug. 16, 1876, northwest of Seneca. He was member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and Knights of Columbus. He was a farmer.
He was married to the former Mary C. Dignan in 1903. She died June 21, 1962.

Survivors include five other sons, Emmett Haug, Seneca, Edwin Haug, Wichita, Lillis Haug, Daytona Beach, Fla. Wilfred Haug, Coffeyville and Gerald Haug, Phoenix; a daughter, Mary Grace Haug, Topeka; two sisters, Mrs. Rose McCaffrey, Baileyville and Mrs. Ann Grothjan, Onaga; and two brothers, Fred Haug, Baileyville and William Haug, Seneca.

Rosaries will be recited at 8 p. m. Friday at Thornburg Funeral Home, Seneca. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Cemetery, Seneca.

Edward J. Haug -- Seneca lost a grand old man Thursday in the death of Edward J. (Ed) Haug, who had passed the age of 96 years, farmer and carpenter who was privileged in health, doing carpenter work into his nineties and even had a garden last summer.

Mr. Haug died December 6, 1972 at the home of a son Omar at Seneca, Besides Omar, the sons of his are, Emmett of Seneca, Edwin of Wichita, Lillis of Daytona Beach, Florida, Wilfred of Coffeyville, and Gerald of Phoenix, Arizona; and the daughter is Miss Grace of Topeka. He leaves 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; his brothers Fred of Baileyville and Will of Seneca; and sisters, Mrs. Rosa McCaffery of Baileyville and Mrs. Anna Grothjan of Onaga.

The funeral service was held at 10:30 Saturday morning at Sts. Peter and Paul Church with burial at the parish cemetery. The rosary had been recited the previous evening at the Thornburg Funeral Home. In addition to being a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Mr. Haug was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was born on a farm northwest of St. Benedict on August 16, 1876, son of August and Katherine Selbach Haug. In 1903, he married Mary C. Dignan at St. Benedict. Their long married life was broken by her passing on June 21, 1962.

The Haugs lived at St. Mary's from 1917 to 1922, then returned to Seneca; went to Hanford, Washington in 1943, retuning a couple years later to a farm southwest of Axtell.
