MORAN MAN IS KILLED IN CRASH

William J. MYERS, 73, an Allen county farm resident most of his life, was killed in a traffic collision three miles north of LaHarpe, Kansas Saturday morning, Nov. 4, 1950, the third fatality in the county in the past month.

Myer's car, a 1929 Ford coupe, was struck at a county road intersection about 10:30 a.m. The other driver was Kenneth Callahan, who lives near Mildred, KS. Myers was headed west from his home, three miles north and about a mile west of Moran. Callahan, accompanied by Mrs. Callahan and their small daughter, was driving south. Myers was thrown through the top of the coupe and into a ditch suffering a broken neck. He died instantly. Sheriff John Page and other officers were called to survey the crash.

MYERS body was first brought to Iola and later removed to the Ralston Funeral home at Moran, where funeral services for the victim will be held Tuesday.

He was married to Perna Elizabeth WILLIS. She preceded him in death.

He has lived near Moran, Kansas most of his life and was the father of 11 sons and daughters. Myers has lived on various farms in the Moran vicinity during his lifetime and has been at his present address four years. He lived alone and did not farm the land on the place.

Myers was a member of the Masonic lodge.

His sons and daughters include the following: Claude Myers, of Alameda, CA, Frank Myers, of Oden, IL, Leo Myers, of Independence, MO, Roy Myers and Arthur Myers, both of Elsmore, KS, Everett Myers, of Bayonne, NJ, Mrs. Ona Schooley, of Gasconade, MO, Mrs. Effie Justus, of Manhattan, KS, Miss Beulah Myers, of Moran, KS, Mrs. Lola Crum, of St.Louis, MO, and Mrs. Ruth Morrison, of LaHarpe, KS. He also leaves 29 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Morgan, of Leadville, CO, and Mrs. Effie Wetzler, of Pueblo, CO; and two brothers, George Myers, of Moran, KS, and John Myers, of Grier, NM.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at Moran, KS, with burial in the LaHarpe Cemetery, La Harpe, KS. The Rev. Darrel Zwink will conduct the service.
