Graduating from Michigan Technological University (Michigan College of Mines) with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Ed immediately entered the Army Corps of Engineers in the days leading up to the U.S. entry into WWII. Present at Pearl Harbor on that day which will live in infamy, he also served at other locations in the South Pacific. He later worked for Caterpillar in Peoria, IL. Growing up in the Greenland, MI area, his nickname "Snowball" was no doubt due to his light blonde hair.
