Sarah Huntington was born in the year 1843 or 1844 (detailed date is not known) in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. She died on 2-3-1912 at the age of 68 years according to her California death record and Funeral record. She had been ill for a while and was sent to San Francisco from Marysville, Yuba County, California by her family to promote better health. Sarah died there as the wife of William T Ellis, a prominent Merchant dealer. Cremation was done in San Francisco and it is stated in the Funeral record that it was requested that the ashes be sent to Rev, Edward Marshall Mott in Washington D C, he was the son of Sarah's sister Amelia Huntington Mott. The dates on the headstone are not correct, the corrected dates are listed at the beginning of this bio so I won't change them on the memorial. Those dates were probably the best the nephew could remember when he had it etched before, or maybe after his death.
Sarah was the daughter of John Huntington born in New London County Connecticut and Sarah S Goff born in Pennsylvania, they were married in Ohio in 1822.
Sarah and four of her siblings came to California and settled in Marysville, Yuba County, CA in the 1850's. Her sister Amelia had married Gordon N Mott in Ohio several years before they departed for California, it is not clear if Judge G N Mott had arrived ahead of them or traveled with his wife and her siblings. The 1850 Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio census showed the parents, John and Sarah with their eight children. Sarah's sister Amelia was listed as Amelia Mott, but Judge Mott was not in that census, there was also a five year old John Mott.
So the oldest of the Huntington children to travel from Ohio was Amelia, then John, Abby, Elizabeth and Sarah, a brother Charles, and sisters Louisa and Garden remained in Ohio with their parents, their father John, died a few years later, and it seems that Sarah's mother remained there.
In 1860 one of Sarah's sister, Elizabeth Huntington married William T Ellis in Marysville, yes years later he also was the husband of Sarah, after Elizabeth died in 1878, Sarah and William T Ellis Sr were married in 1886.
