Husband to Mary Louise Crank Ireland; father of Sandra Louise and Dana Marie. John became an advocate for victim's rights after his daughter, Dana, was murdered in 1991. He also worked to enact legislation regarding statute of limitation involving violent crimes. The Ireland family's story was detailed in the book, "Murder in Paradise" by Chris Loos.
