LEDGER, August 6 1926.
Mrs. SARAH PENORAH HOWARD died yesterday at her home, end of E. Burlington St.
Daughter of John C. and Anna Bradshaw, born September 18 1856, three miles east of Fairfield. Spent entire life in Jefferson County. M.E. Church.
Married S.A. Howard October 24 1877. Five children: Mrs. Anna Haney at home; V.A. Howard of Chicago, Ill.; J.H. Howard of LeRoy, Kansas; Mrs. J.C. Lynch of Milton, and Ruby May, who died in infancy; also leaves nine grandchildren; one brother, W.E. Bradshaw of Tacoma, Wash. Three brothers and one sister preceded her several years.
Transcribers note: Husband's name was either Simpson Asbury or Asbury Simpson Howard. She had been married before as her marriage record to Mr. Howard shows her name as " Mrs. Penorah S. (Bradshaw) Donaldson." Mrs. Howard's birth date was listed as 25 September 1856 and her mother's maiden name was Anna Whitam - cited from "Death Records Bk. 5, p. 76. JEFFERSON COUNTY MARRIAGE Record #4809 and JEFFERSON COUNTY RECORDS by Orville & Mary Prill."
----------
Note: the graves of Simpson and Sarah Bradshaw Howard are not marked with headstones, so that precludes using a headstone engraving to settle (or keep on) any name and date discrepancies.
-----------
Daughter Ruby May Howard (Feb. 12, 1896 - Nov. 15, 1896) is listed on this cemetery listing as Ruby A Howard. Her entry was made by another contributor in 2007.
Ruby A Howard
-----------
Although not mentioned in her obituary, Sarah was first married to James (Jas.) M Donaldson (1854-1874) on February 19, 1874. They were evidently married only about nine months when James died (nature and circumstances not known at this time). He is buried nearby in Old.P.283.
