Georgia Jewell Mills, 92, of Salem, Va., passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2009. Born and raised in Lafayette, Va., she was the second eldest of six children born to Oscar and Florence Jewell. She graduated Valedictorian from Shawsville High School in 1935 and attended Radford College the following year. She married the love of her life, Coy Oliver Mills, in 1937. In 1942 they built a home on North Bruffey Street in Salem where she lived for 67 years, except the last 2+ years when she resided at Snyder's Nursing Home. She worked at Newberry's, Yale & Town, and Kroger's, and finally at General Electric until she retired in the mid-70's. She enjoyed her travels to England and Germany to visit her daughter's Air Force family while they were twice stationed in Europe. Georgia Mills was a woman of strong will and generous heart. The first to arrive with a plate of food or a helping hand, her loving nature extended to both friends and family. She cared lovingly for her husband for eight years following his debilitating stroke in 1983. She was predeceased by infant daughter, Carolyn Jane; and her husband, Oliver; brothers, Curtis, Gaylord, and Robert; and sister, Etta Poff. She was a member of Central Methodist Church in Salem. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Mills Henry and husband, Ron, of Williamsburg; granddaughters, Sharon McGinty and husband, Mike, of Williamsburg, and Sheri Rohaley and husband, Scott, of Rock Hill, S.C.; six greatgrandchildren, Devon, Conner, and Brendan McGinty, and Hannah, Faith, and Joshua Rohaley; sister, Martha Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Snyder's Nursing Home staff for their loving care. The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2009, at Lotz Salem Chapel. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.
