Mrs. Lane was born on August 2, 1918, in Baileyton, Green County, Tennessee to Claude C. and Lucy Ann Smith Bailey. Her parents preceded her in death. A homemaker, she was married to Ballard Earl (B.E.) Lane. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1984. She was affiliated with the Methodist Church, Markle, Indiana.
Prior to moving to this area she traveled with her husband extensively through the United States, where he was involved in the construction of Atomic and Nuclear Power Plants and Holiday Inns. During her residence at Heritage of Huntington she served as president of the Resident's Council. Additionally, she served as a volunteer at Huntington County Hospital for many years. Survivors include a son, Millard Jack (Joan) Lane of Columbia City, three grandsons, Robert Eugene (Sandra) Lane, Richard Alan (Jill) Lane and Charles Ballard (Dr. Anette) Lane, a grand-daughter Teresa Kay (Scott) Shelley and 8 Great-Grandchildren. She is also survived by a daughter–in-law, Carolyn (Mark) Hamilton of Markle.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ron Norris Lane, a grandson, David Joseph Lane, a brother Cecil Bailey and two half-brothers, Emmett and Charles Bellamy.
Calling hours will be Thursday, March 7, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at the McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 8 at the McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home with Rev. Gus Hacker officiating. Burial will be in Star of Hope Cemetery in Huntington.
