Mr. Kenneth "Ken" Marion, age 73, of Buford, Ga., passed away on Monday, July 20, 2009. He was preceded in death by: parents, Ira and Margaret Marion; sisters, Dorothy Keel, Macy Parker, Gladys Owens and Patricia Martin.
He is survived by: wife of 51 years, Sigi Marion; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Dale and Sheila Marion, of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Paul Thomas Marion, of Buford, Ga.; six grandchildren, Alexandria Nicole Marion, Nicholas Marion, and Matthew Marion, all Lawrenceville, Ga., Paul Thomas Marion, Jr., Douglas Marion, and Brian Christopher Marion, all of Suwanee, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Paul Thomas and Perm Marion, both of Norcross, Ga.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Marion was born May 5, 1936, in Morgan County, Ala. He was a 1955 graduate of Decatur High School where he played football and basketball. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the U.S. Army after twenty years of service where he received a bronze star from the Vietnam era. He was also retired from DeKalb County Solicitor's Office after twenty years of service. He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Monica in Duluth, Ga., and former member of the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Atlanta, and the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch, Ga.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 12:10 p.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Monica with Father Jack Durkin serving as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Peachtree Memorial Park in Norcross, with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m.
After the interment, the Marion family would like to invite everyone to a reception at Robert and Sheila Marion's home, Jefferson Station Subdivision, 1971 Shadwell Way, Lawrenceville, GA 30043.
