Civil War Veteran Dies at 89 years -- (Colfax County Stockman)
At the advanced age of 89 years, Jesus Carreon died at the home of his son, Juan, in the north part of the city at 6 o'clock last Sunday evening. Over two years ago he became totally blind and since had been almost helpless.
Funeral was held at 2 o'clock New Year's day and Interment made in the Springer Cemetery.
Jesus Carreon was a veteran of the Civil War, a member of the First Division, New Mexico Infantry Volunteers, and served four [4] years and two [2] months, or almost during the entire period of the war.
He was married at Cimarron and in 1882 removed to Springer where he has since lived. Besides the widow, four children survive him, two boys and two girls, all born in this city: namely, Juan of this city; Jose, of Campany NM, Celestina and Patricina, who are minor children. He was a pensioner and a Tailor by trade, but owning to failing eyesight had not worked at it for 10 years.
