Born Oct. 11, 1913, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Curtis and Effie (Enochs) Chastain. He grew up in the Bono area, working on farms as a boy and young man. He always preferred to work with mules rather than horses. He was an avid gardener and loved to give away his produce.
He retired from GM Powertrain in 1975 and was a member of UAW Local 440. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Clyde married Florence Elizabeth McKinney Nov. 14, 1934, and she preceded him in death Dec. 7, 1994.
Survivors include sons, Darrell (Mary Lou) Chastain and Stanley (Paula) Chastain; daughters, Mrs. Robert (Christina) Hillenburg, all of Lawrence County, and Mrs. John (Charlann) Corns, Pueblo, Colo.; sisters, Mrs. Leathel (Myrtle) Robbins and Mrs. Raymond (Marie) McFarlan, both of Bedford; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Charles Dean, who died shortly after birth; daughter, Carolyn Sue Wampler, who passed away in April of 1995; brothers, Dale, Ray, Floyd, Claude, Clifford, Howard and Theodore "Pete" Chastain; and sisters, Mrs. Rodden (Mae) Blevins and Mrs. Raymond (Madge) Smith.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Chapel of the Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Hillenburg and the Rev. Claude Chastain officiating. Burial will be in Lawrenceport Cemetery.
