Mr. Schwindt had worked for Derby Refinery from 1945 to 1974, and then he worked for the Yates Center School District as a custodian and a bus driver from 1974 to 1994. He served aboard the USS Sea Pike in the Navy during World War II, and aboard the USS Jackson in the Navy during the Korean War.
He was born Sept. 20, 1922, at Boyero, Colo., the son of Christopher Schwindt and Freda N. Mohr. He attended school at Quincy and he graduated from Yates Center High School in 1942.
He was married to Norma Lea Schuster on Dec. 30, 1945, in Wichita. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Yvonne Diane Cloutier, Wichita, Linda Lea Kapp, Lawrence, and Saundra Sue Hite, Yates Center; a son, Michael Charles Schwindt, Iola; three brothers, James Schwindt and John Schwindt, both of Kansas City, Kan., and Christopher Schwindt, Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Waneta Burris, Lexington, Mo., and Beulah Ellison, Ogden, Utah; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Yates Center Cemetery.
Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the New York Valley Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
